EQUESTRIAN

The Equestrian schedule for the 2010 Show is being extended over 2 full days to cater for an extended program including Show Jumping and the reintroduction of the Horses versus Motorbikes Barrel Race.  Once again competitors will travel from Katherine and Darwin to compete against local riders from Kununurra and surrounding Stations.

Friday’s program starts at 8.00 am with the Dressage sponsored by the Kununurra Chiropractic Clinic on the main oval, followed by riding events on Friday afternoon, starting at 1.00 pm which will see riders of all ages competing for Champion Rider of the show.  Friday afternoon will finish up with the junior showjumping.

Saturday’s events start as soon as the gates open at 8am with the halter and ridden classes. These include a range of displays from Led Thoroughbred’s, Purebred Arabians, Stock horse and Coloured horse competing for Champion Led Exhibit of the show, Smartest on Parade, Pair of riders and Ridden Stockhorse.  This will be followed by the Open Stock Horse Time Trial in which competitors have to negotiate a number of obstacles in the quickest time.

At 12.00pm the Triple J Tours showjumping will commence which is sure to be a crowd favourite and following the show jumping will be the fancy dress.

The afternoon will continue with some fast paced events in the Jabiru Painting Gymkhana.  Some of the great novelty events include the bending race, egg and spoon race and apple bobbing.

The final event for the program will be the Kununurra Home and Garden Horses Vs Motorbike Barrel Challenge at 4.00pm.  This will see the best riders of both disciplines competing for the fastest time around the barrel course.  There is sure to be some dirt flying!
