Romantic image of cattle drive wins society award
Kununurra photographer Bron Cooke has won a Royal Agricultural Society prize with an image that encapsulates station life in the Kimberley.
Ms Cooke captured the romantic images of a dusty Kimberley cattle drive while she was working as a camp cook at Carlton Hill Station near Kununurra.
The picture received first prize in the Australian Rural Life section of the Agricultural Art Prize at the Perth show late last year.
She said the art prize was an opportunity to share the magic of the station life she enjoyed in the Kimberley and the Northern Territory for six years.
“I just love being out in the bush so that’s the best thing for me, the lifestyle is just amazing.
It’s very hot, you work hard and long days but it’s worth it.”
Ms Cooke was able to nominate the image after it won a prize at the Kununurra Agricultural Show.
As a former employee and an existing committee member of the Agricultural Society she urged more young residents to join the organisation.
“It’s such a buzz,” she said.
“Show week comes along and it is so exciting seeing all your hard work come together.
This year is Year of the Farm and we are really going to focus on that”
