What, No Dinner in 2018??
We’re not having an Agricultural or Cattlemen’s dinner at showtime this year: your feedback indicates that we need to focus on running a better show on the Friday, and we don’t have enough people to do a great job of both at the same time. We will still have a similar event, just not at showtime this year. When will it be? Late this year (October/November). What will it be? We are hoping that this will be a very inclusive event for all involved with the show and/or agribusiness in the East Kimberley. It will be a lunch or dinner at an off-site venue. If you have ideas about the sort of event you’d like to attend, please let us know. Who is running it? We are seeking a volunteer!! Please email us if you can help! The Mexicans
A Broome band with a love of roots/reggae/jazz music and storytelling: much like their multi-cultural Broome community in general! They are a product of the environment, providing a dance soundtrack to the holiday lifestyle of the locals. Their newly released debut EP “Broome Chillies” is available now! www.themexicans.com.au Junkadelic
Since 2002, the Junkadelic Collective has been taking Funk on Junk all over Western Australia and across the seas to Hong Kong and the USA. By re-envisaging “Junk” as a resource for making instruments and applying it in a form of “Edu-tainment”, we break away from wasteful trends and help others to see that they are capable of doing their own thing in unison with others. Showing what is possible with a little imagination and a little effort. The Junkadelic approaches this with a holistic view seeking to connect rhythm in your body to your mind and being enterprising with what we have and what we find. Inspired by Carnivale Festivals and a myriad of musical forms Junkadelic remains a vibrant part of the DIY culture that has, and always will be, the birthplace of fresh ideas that paves the way towards sustainable living. And we’ll have a good time while we’re at it. Check out their website http://junkadelic.org BK Trick Riding
Local lady, Becky Klingenberg, will be displaying her amazing skills on horseback for your entertainment and running workshops for those game enough to ride a wild barrel. Neil Murray
Maverick song man, Neil Murray, returns to Kununurra for a performance at the Kununurra Agricultural Society Show on Friday 13 July. Neil will be armed with a set list of landmark songs and Hindsight, a compilation double album containing 32 tracks. With more than three decades performing and recording behind him, Neil is a respected and influential songwriter who has contributed handsomely to the nation’s contemporary music heritage. A co- founding member of the pioneering Warumpi Band and writer of such classic songs as My Island Home, Blackfella Whitefella, Eddie Mabo, Whispering Casuarina, Native Born, Bring Thunder and Rain, Long Grass Band, Burrumbeep Hill and Good Light in Broome, Neil has delivered a string of remarkable solo albums. Accolades include Warumpi Band’s Jailanguru Pakarnu (Out From Jail – co-written with Sammy Butcher and released in 1983 - credited as the first pop/rock single in an indigenous language – Luritja) and Christine Anu performing Neil’s 1995 APRA Song of the Year, the ‘anthemic’ My Island Home at the 2000 Olympics. Both songs feature in the National Film and Sound Archive’s Sounds of Australia collection. Neil was also last year’s Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the Year. Missy Higgins has covered Calm and Crystal Clear and most recently, Liz Stringer with Lights of Hay. Other artists to record Neil’s songs include Ireland’s Mary Black, Jimmy Little, Tiddas, Ursula Yovich, Emma Donovan, Powderfinger, Adam Brand, Peter Denahy, Peter Brandy and Amy Saunders. As Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie says “Neil Murray sings from the heart of the country” and this will be an engaging performance with iconic songs inspired by the Territory and beyond.
